On the road in the region
The nobles at the Bonn court usually owned a manor in the surrounding area with a castle or palace and more or less extensive estates. The tenor Johann van Beethoven, his son Ludwig and the violinist Franz Georg Rovantini found a friendly welcome here on their travels through the region.
In Flamersheim, they visited the electoral Cologne chamberlain Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Dalwigk. As the Bonn master baker Gottfried Fischer recalls, he was "one of the most beautiful cavaliers at the Bonn court". On top of that, he had a daughter "who was just as beautiful" and loved music like her father.
In Oberdrees, they stopped off at the home of a relative of the Fischer family of bakers. Ludwig van Beethoven must have seen the town wall of Rheinbach, as it was only laid down in 1820.
